Advice After Intravenous Sedation

After IV sedation, it is normal to feel drowsy, slightly fatigued, or have partial memories of the procedure. These effects are temporary.

The First Few Hours

  • Rest quietly at home.
  • A responsible adult must stay with you for the remainder of the day.
  • Drink clear liquids when you feel ready, then resume a light diet as per post-operative recommendations.

Activities to Avoid for 24 Hours

  • Do not drive a vehicle.
  • Do not operate machinery.
  • Do not sign important legal documents.
  • Do not consume alcohol or recreational drugs.

Medication and Pain

  • Take prescribed medications as directed.
  • Do not add other medications without consulting your surgeon or pharmacist.
