Post-operative advice

It is normal to experience sensitivity, slight bleeding, or discomfort in the hours following the procedure. These symptoms usually subside quickly.

Bleeding

Keep a gauze pad in your mouth and bite down on it, maintaining light pressure for 20 to 30 minutes. Change the gauze pad as needed.

Slight oozing is normal during the first few hours.

On the day of surgery, avoid rinsing your mouth vigorously, spitting, or drinking through a straw.

Pain and swelling

Take the prescribed or recommended medication as directed.

Apply ice to the cheek (20 to 30 minutes at a time) during the first 24 hours. Applying ice beyond 24 hours is not recommended.

Begin applying moist heat on day 3.

Diet

Stick to soft and cold (or lukewarm) foods during the first 24 to 48 hours.

Avoid hard, very hot, or spicy foods.

Oral hygiene

Continue brushing your teeth while avoiding the surgical area for the first 24 hours.

If a mouthwash is prescribed, use it according to the instructions provided to you.

Activities

Rest on the day of surgery.

Avoid strenuous physical activity for 24 to 48 hours.
