For bimaxillary surgeries (upper and lower jaw), it is normal to need to spend one to two nights in the hospital. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"card-repeater || border-t border-dark py-6 last:pb-0 || lg:py-8 lg:grid-col\">\n    <div class=\"flex flex-col gap-5 mb-6 || md:grid-col md:items-center lg:mb-8 lg:col-span-full\">\n                <h3 class=\"text-h4 || md:col-start-1 md:col-span-full lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">Discomfort<\/h3>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"wysiwyg-container || lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">\n    <p>It is recommended to follow the dosage instructions for the prescribed pain medication closely in order to properly control post-operative discomfort.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"card-repeater || border-t border-dark py-6 last:pb-0 || lg:py-8 lg:grid-col\">\n    <div class=\"flex flex-col gap-5 mb-6 || md:grid-col md:items-center lg:mb-8 lg:col-span-full\">\n                <h3 class=\"text-h4 || md:col-start-1 md:col-span-full lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">Ice<\/h3>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"wysiwyg-container || lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">\n    <p>Applying ice is recommended for the first 48 hours. You may begin applying moist heat on the third day. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"card-repeater || border-t border-dark py-6 last:pb-0 || lg:py-8 lg:grid-col\">\n    <div class=\"flex flex-col gap-5 mb-6 || md:grid-col md:items-center lg:mb-8 lg:col-span-full\">\n                <h3 class=\"text-h4 || md:col-start-1 md:col-span-full lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">Swelling<\/h3>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"wysiwyg-container || lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">\n    <p>It is normal to have significant swelling after your procedure. Swelling will peak about 48 hours after surgery. Afterwards, it will gradually subside. Two weeks after the procedure, 50% to 60% of the swelling will be gone, and 80% to 90% will be gone after 1 month. Applying ice helps limit swelling. It is unnecessary\u2014and can even be harmful\u2014to continue applying ice beyond 48 hours.      <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"card-repeater || border-t border-dark py-6 last:pb-0 || lg:py-8 lg:grid-col\">\n    <div class=\"flex flex-col gap-5 mb-6 || md:grid-col md:items-center lg:mb-8 lg:col-span-full\">\n                <h3 class=\"text-h4 || md:col-start-1 md:col-span-full lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">Oral hygiene<\/h3>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"wysiwyg-container || lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">\n    <p>To help healing and reduce the risk of infection, good oral hygiene is essential. In the first few days after your procedure, brushing your teeth will be more difficult due to swelling and discomfort. It will be hard to brush your teeth during the first few days. As soon as possible, start brushing again. Tip: buy a soft-bristled children\u2019s toothbrush\u2014the smaller brush head will make it easier. We encourage you to rinse your mouth frequently with a saltwater solution as well as with the prescribed mouthwash solution.     <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"card-repeater || border-t border-dark py-6 last:pb-0 || lg:py-8 lg:grid-col\">\n    <div class=\"flex flex-col gap-5 mb-6 || md:grid-col md:items-center lg:mb-8 lg:col-span-full\">\n                <h3 class=\"text-h4 || md:col-start-1 md:col-span-full lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">Diet<\/h3>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"wysiwyg-container || lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">\n    <p>During your hospital stay, a dietitian will meet with you and give you tips and advice on how to eat better. However, unless your surgeon advises otherwise, a <strong>soft-liquid<\/strong> diet is required for the first 2 weeks. After that, for the next 2 to 6 weeks, you can gradually increase the texture to a soft diet (eggs, pasta, fish, ground meat). After 6 weeks, you may begin, still gradually, to eat whatever you want.   <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"card-repeater || border-t border-dark py-6 last:pb-0 || lg:py-8 lg:grid-col\">\n    <div class=\"flex flex-col gap-5 mb-6 || md:grid-col md:items-center lg:mb-8 lg:col-span-full\">\n                <h3 class=\"text-h4 || md:col-start-1 md:col-span-full lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">Physical activity<\/h3>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"wysiwyg-container || lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">\n    <p><strong>Intense<\/strong>, high-level physical activity is not recommended for the first 2 weeks. All contact sports are prohibited for 3 months following surgery. <\/p>\n<p>We encourage you to resume your daily activities as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"card-repeater || border-t border-dark py-6 last:pb-0 || lg:py-8 lg:grid-col\">\n    <div class=\"flex flex-col gap-5 mb-6 || md:grid-col md:items-center lg:mb-8 lg:col-span-full\">\n                <h3 class=\"text-h4 || md:col-start-1 md:col-span-full lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">Recovery<\/h3>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"wysiwyg-container || lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">\n    <p>During the first few days after your procedure, take time to rest and regain your strength. Depending on the type of surgery you had and the work you do, plan to return to work 2 to 6 weeks after your surgery. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"card-repeater || border-t border-dark py-6 last:pb-0 || lg:py-8 lg:grid-col\">\n    <div class=\"flex flex-col gap-5 mb-6 || md:grid-col md:items-center lg:mb-8 lg:col-span-full\">\n                <h3 class=\"text-h4 || md:col-start-1 md:col-span-full lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">Medication prescription<\/h3>\n    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"wysiwyg-container || lg:col-start-2 lg:col-span-10\">\n    <p>Before you leave the hospital, you will be given a prescription for pain relievers and an antimicrobial mouthwash solution.
